FAQ
Free QR codes, for people and for AI agents
An agent does not need an account. Post the destination and save the SVG from the response. A person can do the same in the browser at qrcode.house. An account is only for claiming a hosted link and for the $9.99/year unlock.
Create a URL code
POST https://qrcode.house/api/qr/generate
Content-Type: application/json
{ "type": "url", "destination_url": "https://example.com/menu" }MCP clients can use https://qrcode.house/mcp (tool create_qr). Setup is on For AI. Short brief: /llms.txt.
Questions
- Can an AI agent create a free QR code without an account?
- Yes. No signup and no API key. POST JSON to https://qrcode.house/api/qr/generate, or call the create_qr tool on the MCP server at https://qrcode.house/mcp. The response includes a branded SVG. Do not invent a QR image.
- How does an agent download the QR file?
- The SVG is already in the response. On HTTP it is the svg field. On MCP it is in the create_qr tool text, under the line SVG:. Save that markup as a .svg file. There is no second download call for a free code. GET https://qrcode.house/api/qr/download is only for a signed-in owner of an unlocked code.
- What JSON creates a URL QR code?
- POST https://qrcode.house/api/qr/generate with Content-Type: application/json and body {"type":"url","destination_url":"https://example.com/menu"}. Optional field: name. A successful response includes svg, scanUrl, claimUrl, slug, hosted: true, and upsell.
- Which QR types can an agent create?
- url, vcard, wifi, email, phone, sms, whatsapp, maps, and event. URL codes are hosted short links. The other types encode the payload in the pattern and are not stored for later editing.
- Does a URL code from the API work before anyone pays?
- Yes. It is a short link at https://qrcode.house/{slug}. The first destination works as soon as the code is created and stays frozen until someone unlocks that code for $9.99/year.
- Do agents need MCP?
- No. Any agent that can send an HTTP POST can create a free QR. MCP is already available for clients that speak it, such as Cursor and Claude: https://qrcode.house/mcp. Discovery file: https://qrcode.house/.well-known/mcp.json. Tools: create_qr and explain_dynamic_qr. Free create needs no auth.
- Can an AI agent open an account?
- There is no signup API. An account is not required to create or download a free QR. To open one, use the page at https://qrcode.house/signup: Google, or email and a password of at least 8 characters. Email signup asks the person to confirm the message before they can sign in. An account is required to claim a hosted URL code and to pay $9.99/year.
- What is the claim link?
- Unclaimed URL codes return a claimUrl such as https://qrcode.house/claim/{token}. Give that URL to the human and tell them to save it. Whoever opens it and signs in can take ownership. Do not publish the claim link.
- Can a person download a free QR from the website without an account?
- Yes. Open https://qrcode.house/, enter a destination, and download PNG, JPEG, SVG, or PDF. No signup. A free URL code becomes a qrcode.house short link when you download it; the first destination works and stays frozen until unlock. Other types stay encoded in the pattern. The QRcode.house mark is in the centre of every free file.
- What does $9.99/year unlock?
- One code, for a year: change the destination without reprinting, replace the house mark with your own logo, and set colours, patterns, and corners. There is no monthly platform plan. Prices: https://qrcode.house/pricing.
- Are Wi-Fi passwords stored?
- No. Wi-Fi, vCard, phone, SMS, email, WhatsApp, maps, and event payloads are baked into the pattern. Do not send a Wi-Fi password expecting qrcode.house to store it. Only URL destinations are hosted.
- Where should an agent read the instructions?
- This page (https://qrcode.house/faq), the short brief at https://qrcode.house/llms.txt, and the agent page at https://qrcode.house/for-agents.
